On 7 oktoober. Eile ohtul sai nautida punaveini joe kaldal jalga kolgutades  ja tana hommikul kell 7.30 kondisin ma toole, seljas vaid tank-top, teksad ja platud. Ja temperatuur oli ideaalne. Nagu oleks Ottawas, kus viimased 6 aastat on soe ilm pysinud pea jouluni.

Samuti nagime bussiaknast imeilusat paikesetousu eelset taevast.

Well… the day looked fairly quiet. No big events for the day. And I think I was the only one wearing red, blue and white.

But in the evening there were big fireworks and lots of people. David and I bought a bottle of bubbly and got a pretty sweet spot under the bridge. The fireworks were beautiful! And the bubbly wine tasted great. It was just that it is difficult to drink bubbly wine from the bottle

Later we joined the big concert/dance party at the guinguette.

14 juuli. Vaba päev! Viimaks ometi! Ja ma saan olla tunnistajaks, kuidas prantslased «oma prantsuse päeva » tähistavad. Ma ootasin midagi Kanada sarnast. Et kõik kannavad lipuvärvides rõivaid ja et rahvale pakutakse tsirkust varastest hommikutundidest peale. Aga Prantsusmaal on teistmoodi. Varahommikul ei ole kedagi näha. Ja päev ise on ka pigem unine. Pariisis muidugi on ikka paraad ja rohkem üritusi. Ja sini-puna-valge särgiga olin mina ka üksi.

Aga õhtul oli see-eest vägev ilutulestik. Istusime Davidiga silla all ja j õime mulliveini. Ja hiljem tantsisime guinguetteil.

Chambord

July 12-13

Casey and I went for a walk one day and on our way back we met Jimmy. He followed us after seeing us on the Place Plumereau and thinking that he knows me. I still cannot recall ever meeting him before. We talked about the “world and the weather” and then Jimmy offered to drive us to a château.  We said yes and at noon the following day our limousine picked us up. Jimmy spoke only French. So it was a great exercise for me! Instead of planned Chenonceau castle we ended up in Chambord. Clearly something went missing in translation. But the positive thing is that while Chenonceau is accessible by train, Chambord is not. So good a deal. Chambord was very, very impressive! And it has to be as it is the biggest castle in the Loire area. It has 440 roms! Beautiful renaissance design. The main attraction is the “double helix” staircase designed by Leonardo da Vinci, which allows people to change floors without running into another. Chambord was designed to be just a hunting castle and the main reason to be built was the wish of king François I to be close to his mistress.

Chambord was amazing! Huge, impressive and beautiful! And, again, the world is small. We ran into Nadja at the Chambord:)

The following day we also visited Langeais castle and the little town around it.

Yhel ohtul tulime just Caseyga jalutamast, kui kohtusime Jimmyiga. Yks kohalik tyyp. Raakisime maast ja ilmast ja siis ta lubas meid viia autoga yht lossi vaatama. Plaan kolas uhkelt ja jargmisel paeval oligi limusiin ukse ees. Tyyp raakis ainult prantsuse keelt, nii et ei olnud vaga suur yllatus kui me plaanitud Chenonceau lossi teest mooda soitsime ja hoopis Chambordi lossi porutasime.Chambord on Loire piirkonna koige suurem loss. Lossis on 440 tuba! Ehitatud 16 sajandil Fançois I soovil, kuna tema armuke elas samas naabruskonnas. Ja tegelikult jaigi too loss vaid no. jahi-hooaja lossiks. Maherdune raiskamine, eks ole. Aga ruumid ja koridorid ja terrassid on vapustavalt vagevad! Koige kuulsam vaatamisvaarsus on kaksik-heeliku moodi trepp, mis sai kunagi Leonardo da Vinci poolt disainitud. Idee oli selles, et kuna lossis plaaniti palju pidusid pidada, siis oli vaja et inimesed kes yksteist naha ei soovi, saaks narve rikkumata siiski korruselt korrusele liikuda. Vaga majesteetlik trepp. Lyhidalt – Chambord oli vagev!

Leonardo da Vinci double helix staircase/Keerdtrepp

Jargmisel paeval viis Jimmy meid ka Langeais lossi ja kylakesse.

Casey, my Canadian friend, was visiting Tours. She is in Grenoble for 2 month. So the first night we went to Fête du Loire – Loire party. The previous year they had free food and drinks. But this year the crisis had had its influence and the beverages/food had to be provided by yourself. At least they had free buses going to the place.

We started with hanging out at the river, looking at the shiny fish and drinking wine. Very relaxing!

The best parts were the arts installations everywhere. One very cool one was a black forest, where people were on trees and made some musical sound with pipe-like instruments that glowed blue light. It was really surreal and cool!

The best one was the show with lit-up huge figures that were dancing and moving in the melody of an accordion. Something one must see with their own eyes!

Juulis tähistatakse ka Loire päeva. Casey Kanadast oli siin sel ajal, ja nii me läksime kolmekesi tasuta bussiga peopaika. Alul istusime jõe ääres ja nautisime silleravaid kalu ja jõime veini. Ja siis läksime kunstitaieseid uudistama. Väga kihvti kraami oli igal pool. Alates imelikest kujudest puu otsas ja lõpetades munadega muru sees.

Üks eriti vinge installatsioon oli pimedas metsas kus inimesed olid puude otsas ja tegid muusikat siniselt helendavate torudega. Väga sürr!

Ja kõige kihvtim oli installatsioon helendavate suurte kujudega, kes tantsisid akordioni saatel. Väga kihvt. Midagi mida peaks oma silmaga kaema, et elamust saada.

The garden of Leonardo da Vinci castle was really, really cool. I did not know he had built quite a bit of funny contraptions. So it was very educational. And again – it was just so cool to be on the same grounds as Vinci. So what, that there are a few hundreds of years in between.

And the best part about that was that we didn’t need to pay, as the festival was for free! The Eastern European in me is smiling proudly!

Later we tasted some wine at the Ambois castle and then had a drink in a roadside bar. I managed to cause two accidents, by casually revealing my boob, and upon noticing this and trying to save the situation knocked over my beer. But it’s France, so I don’t think anyone really cares. But still – the situation was pretty comical.

And as the sun was setting, we were biking down the road, my yellow wrap around my shoulders flying in the wind like a Zorro, to the catch the train back to Tours. Another amazing day!

Järgneval nädalavahetusel (4 juulil) otsustasime me Davidiga sõita rattaga Amboise linna, kus Le Clos Lucé lossis oli koomiksite festival. Mõeldud, tehtud. Kaardi pealt näitas, et sinna on 20 km. Pole ju hullu. Ja kogu tee paistis mööda jõe äärt kulgevat, ehk siis mägesid ei tohiks ka tee peal olla (jõgi ei saa ju üles-alla minna). Ja pool teest oli tõesti viisakas ja sile ja tasane. Ja siis tuli üks linnake, ja rattatee märk ajas meid muudkui ülesmäge ja lõpuks, kui me teisest otsast välja saime, viis tee meid viinamarja ja päevalille põldude vahele. See kõik oli muidugi väga ilus, aga olid ka mäed. Ja ei olnud nii kerge oma väeti ühekäigulise rattakesega seal. Otsustasime, et tagasi läheme rongiga.

Leonardo da Vinci lossi aeda saime tänu koomiksi festivali salasõnale tasuta sisse. Oh seda kavalust Ja vägev aed on. Igast imevigureid täis. Ma ei teadnudki, et tan ii suur leiutaja oli. Aga näe – oli. Väga õpetlik käik oli.  Ja lihtsalt omaette kihvt on käia samas kohas kus selline suurkuju kunagi hommikuti ringi uitas ja leiutas!

Pigeon maison/Tuvide m6is

Siis kondasime linna peal, proovisime veini ja siis peatusime õlleks tänavaäärses baaris. Seal suutsin ma kaks äpardust korda saata. Esiteks paljastus mingil salajasel jõul, ja minule teadmata ajal, minu rind, ja pärast selle märkamist tekkinud sabinas suutsin ma umber lyya oma õlleklaasi. Nii et selline koomiline ja nukker hetk oli.

Ja siis, keerasin endale oma kollase hõlsti umber õlgade, mis toopeaale kohe tuult võttis nagu Zorrol, ja asusin rattaga vastu päikest teele – rongijaama poole, et kergelt koju saada.

Is this Parisian enough? /Piisavalt pariislanna?

At 4.30 Jean-Luc picked me up and first we went to Vouvray as he had to take pictures of someones house for the journal he works for. It was one amazing house! It belonged to someone important from the Ministry de Commerce or alike.

And then we were headed to Ambois, to the castle La Calmeleterie, for the vernissage called House is not a Home. It was very cool! The castle was very neat and the art installations were cool. They were just presented in the castle. And since it is someone’s house, it was an interesting experience. I especially liked the bedroom mirrors and the lamp. And the photo exhibition in the walk-in closet that had many photos, all of them in pairs.  One was always of a model and the other a site of an injury (accident, war etc). As it was a vernissage, there was also lots of wine and good food. And some celebrities I just heard one name, Natalie White, but the others were not known to me.

The geek in me like that among the other things they had used transfer pipettes in appetizers. Inside the pipette there was oil+balsamic vinegar mixture and the narrow part was stuck through tomato and feta pieces. So you first bit the tomatoes/feta and then squeezed the dressing on top of it, but in your mouth. I think it was cool!

On the way home we had a drink in a pub called Shaker that must have one of the best views in the world.

Kunstinäitus, kunstinäitus. Mida panna selga? Eriti kui on öeldud, et peab välja nägema kui Pariisitar, aga kapis nagu ei ole midagi säärast ja aega poodi minna ka ei ole? Vastus: Must kleit ja punane kaelakee. Ja sobis kui rusikas silmaauku.

Fotograaf korjas mind peale, ja kõigepealt külastasime kohaliku suurkuju kodu, kuna fotograaf tegi sellest majast ajakirjale lugu. Pidada olema üks piirkonna kaunimaid kodusid. Ja vot, kus oli alles elamine. Ilus jaa. Lihtne. Aga stiilne. Keset suuri viinamarja välju.

Ja siis põrutasime kunstinäitusele. See toimus eralossis.

Not the most ordinary bedroom/Mitte just tavaliseim magamistuba

Ja oligi,installatsioonid olid riputatud igale poole lossi sees. Aga kuna see oli ühtlasi ka kellegi kodu, siis oli kunsti nii magamistoas kui kontoris ja köögis. Huvitav. Magamistuba oligi väga kihvt. Ja väga meeldejääv näitus oli garderoobis, kus ilusad modelli fotod olid paari pandud kohutavate õnnetuste piltidega. Vastuoluline, aga meeldejääv ja mõtlemapanev.

Loomulikult oli ka palju veini ja süüa. Ja oli ka kuulsusi, aga peale ühe, Natalie White, kelle nime ma kuulsin, ei tundunud ma kedagi ära.

Teel koju põikasime läbi Le Shakeri baarist, mis on vist üks parima vaatega baare maailmas.

I went to Serpant Volant and had a beer.

In the process of consuming the beer I met two guys – Jean-Luc and David. One was a photographer and other journalist. We chatted, took pictures, had another drink and managed to close to bar (again). Anyhow, the most important part was that they invited me to a vernissage the next day as they had invitations and that would be something very French to do. Ok, I said.

1 juulil oli Kanada päev. Päev ise möödus üsna töiselt. Ajasin vaid Juliaga juttu. Mõlemad unustasime midagi puna-valget selga panna. Õhtul, pärast väikest uinakut, kobisin Lendava Mao baari, sest ometigi ühe õlle peaks ju jooma Kanada terviseks. Ja nii ma siis kohtusin seal ühe fotograaf Jean-Luciga ja ajakirjaniku Davidiga. Ajasime niisama juttu kuni baar kinni pandi ja muuseas kutsusid nad mind järgmisel päeval kunstinäituse avamise häppeningile. Võtsin kutse rõõmuga vastu.

First you meet your friend. Then you cross the bridge to go to a cool bar. Just to realize that the bar is closed. It’s only 9 pm. You could turn around and go to another place (perhaps even one that i already tested)  in town, but that would be too easy. So you walk down the river to Rochecorbon, where there is supposedly (it may or may not be open) another guinguette. You don’t know (yet) that it’s 4 km away. But the walk, with occasional contemplations whether to continue, is beautiful! And finally you make it. And the guinguette is open. And they serve beer and sangria! And the orcherstra is playing. Life is beautiful!

Eventually you need to walk back. Through the woods and by the river. You are holding onto a glass of sangria. It’s night, and the full moon showers your road with its rays.

On jaanipäev. Tuleb tähistada. Aga kuidas?

Kõigepealt tuleb kohtuda sõbraga. Siis ületada sild, et minna ühte toredasse uude baari. Aga, selgub, et baar on kinni, kuigi kell on alles 9. Lihtne (ja igav) oleks minna tagasi kesklinna ja võtta mõni suvaline baar ette. või isegi mõni mida juba tead. Tuleb hoopis idee. Et minna Rochecorbon’i guinguetteile. Too peaks olema üsna lähedal, jõe ääres. Kõnnid. Kõnnid kilomeetri, kõnnid kaks. Mõtled ja pead aru – minna edasi või mitte. Ega ju teagi kas too koht lahti on. Aga sihikindlus võidab ja 4 kilomeetri pärast jõuategi pärale. Rochecorbon’i guinguette. Ja neil on sangriat ja õlut ja orkester mängib vahvaid viise. Nii tore.

Kui kesköö jõudma hakkab on aeg tagasi pöörduda. Sangria klaas käes annab jõudu ja kuukiired annavad valgust. On vist isegi sõnajalaõit näha
